We wanted to do some fall pictures, so we headed off to a local park. The lighting in the stream was a little tough with the shadows from the trees, and Amanda (the little one) fell in the water, but the horizontal layout works well for a Facebook cover photo.
Shooting families can be challenging. When we got out of the brook, I noticed a nice little area where everyone would fit, so I got them together into a tighter group. The diffused lighting through the trees also helped to avoid harsh shadows in this instance and the vertical format works well for your phone background.
Having the sun behind the family and to the side allowed me to get nice smiles without making everyone squint. It also provides some nice rim lighting on the hair.
